Alloy wheels can be expensive but are definitely worth it - but once you've spent the money, make sure you keep them tip top.

Alloy wheels - look a million dollars
One of the main reasons drivers buy alloy wheels is to improve the image of their car, turn a few heads and look fast and stylish. Good quality alloy wheels can make a car look a million dollars, so there's no point investing your hard earned cash and then letting dirt, grime and oil ruin the whole effect. If you buy alloy wheels make sure you regularly care, clean and maintain them.
Keep your rims away form the kerb!
Lecture over - chances are if you're concerned enough about your car to invest in alloy wheels in the first place you don't need to be told to clean and maintain it. But although aluminium alloy wheels are lighter, prettier, and better than steel that are more prone to corrosion, they can look tatty if you are a driver who likes to get too close to the kerb when parking. Scraping your alloy wheels on the kerb is a sure way to ruin the finish on your alloy wheels. The answer? Improve your parking skills!
Avoid abrasive cleaners on Alloy Wheels
As well as giving kerbs a wide berth, you should also avoid abrasive cleaners and scrubbers when you clean your alloy wheels. Gentle is best - and to remove oil, dirt and grime, nothing beats gentle soapy hot water. Don't use anything you wouldn't use on your own delicate face! There are alloy wheel cleaners on the market and dedicated car cleaners that often contain acid based chemicals - they may give a stunning shine, but over time they will wreck the finish on your alloy wheels.
Keep alloy wheels free of brake dust
Another reason to keep alloy wheels in tip top condition isn't just about looking good, although dirt is harmless brake dust is corrosive so it's important you keep alloy wheels clean of brake dust to prevent damage and or a weakening of the wheel structure.
Alloy wheel wax
You can use alloy wheel wax as well as simple soapy water that is dedicated for alloy wheels to help clean, restore and protect them against brake dust and moisture. It's important you use only specialised alloy wheel wax however - using dedicated wax will also mean that your alloy wheels are a lot easier to clean.
Clean frequently
How often you need to clean your alloy wheels depends on the environment, road hazards and weather conditions. If you are in a harsh winter environment where salt and chemicals are used to de-ice the roads, it's more important to clean frequently.
